The Geezer Gang helps people over 60 get out of the chair, out of the house, and talking to someone every day. This is the community side: the programs, the people who help run them, and the clinicians and partners who want to work with us.
Classes, recipes and the Geezer library are on thegeezergang.com. Questions? Call the Geezer line, (815) 443-GEEZ.
What we are building
Every program has to pass one test: does it get a senior moving, eating well, or connected with someone today?
Move
- Geezer Gang classes with Master Bob at the studio, and the same routines as follow-along videos for home.
- Falls prevention: balance practice and learning how to fall safely.
- Walking groups, chair exercise and gentle qigong.
Eat
- Food as Medicine: simple recipes and cooking together.
- Community gardens, where seniors grow food and kids help.
- Working alongside local meal programs, not competing with them.
Connect
- Daily check-in calls on the Geezer line.
- Phone and tablet help, so seniors can video-call family and join classes from home.
- Rides to classes, the garden and appointments.
- Recording seniors’ life stories.
Purpose
- Seniors as volunteers: garden leads, phone callers, greeters, story interviewers. Being needed matters.
- Milestones and celebrations of each other’s progress.
Help us start
We are looking for clinicians who will advise us, volunteers, places to host a class or a garden, and sponsors.
